The Sarah Coke candlesticks are adapted from archeological fragments found at the Coke-Garrett site in Colonial Williamsburg. The original candlesticks were made of brass, however, they broke due to the delicate nature of their design. Unlike the antique, our version has been reworked to withstand the test of time. The antique was unearthed in the layer of soil that dates to the time that the site was owned by the Coke family. John Coke was a goldsmith and Tavern keeper. He died in 1767, at which time his wife Sarah continued to operate the tavern. The fragments of the antique are housed in the archeological offices of the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation.
