James O. Phelps, a Lexington, Virginia, photographer, has perfected the art of the panoramic photograh. This 360-degree panoramic photograph shows the final resting place of over 3,500 Union soldiers who died in the Battle of Gettysburg in July, 1863. Second only to the sacrifice of the soldiers, the site is famous for Abraham Lincoln's dedication speech on November 19, 1863...the Gettysburg Address. The photograph shows the Battlefield's first two monuments. The small urn in the immediate left center was dedicated in 1867 by members of the First Minnesota Regiment to those comrades killed in the battle. The larger and well-known Soldiers' National Monument was erected two years later in 1869. Depicted in stunning sepia tone, the photograph is matted and framed in a beautiful brushed bronze with a walnut hue. 11"W x 41"H
